Dr. Louis J. Algaze
Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and FlexPoint
Dr. Louis Algaze served as president and chief executive officer of Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and FlexPoint from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2026.
During this nearly 40‑year career in education, he led large-scale efforts to expand access to high‑quality online learning and support student success. His leadership helped position FLVS as a national leader in online education and expanded access to flexible, high-quality learning opportunities for students across Florida and around the world.
During his tenure at FLVS and FlexPoint, Algaze set the strategic direction for the organization, supporting the development and delivery of more than 200 online courses serving more than 230,000 students annually in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Appointed by the FLVS Board of Trustees on July 1, 2019, he oversaw day‑to‑day operations for more than 3,900 employees and advanced initiatives focused on personalized learning and improved student outcomes.
His career reflects a steady progression from classroom teacher to principal, district leader, and statewide education leader, guided by a focus on helping students succeed.
Prior to joining FLVS, Algaze spent nearly 30 years with Miami‑Dade County Public Schools, where he began as a teacher and advanced to leadership roles, including dean, assistant principal, and principal. His experience in school improvement, accountability, and large‑scale operations informed his leadership of complex educational systems.
He has also contributed to the broader education community as a mentor to school leaders and as a representative for North America on the University of Cambridge International’s Principal Advisory Board.
